The LoveLife Guide to Getting Married While Apart

Your step-by-step plan for a romantic, legal wedding — even if you’re miles apart

Step 1: Pick Your Date, Time & Locations

  • Choose your backdrop — a quiet beach, your home, a city rooftop, or even different countries.

  • Keep time zones in mind so it works for both of you and your guests.

  • Remember: you and your partner can be in completely separate places.

✅ Deliverable: Your wedding date, time, and location(s) are set.

Step 2: Book Your LoveLife Virtual Wedding

  • Choose your ceremony date and package. Prices start at $399.

  • Share your style (romantic, elegant, modern, fun).

  • Schedule your ceremony date and time (LoveLife does ceremonies 24/7).

✅ Deliverable: You’ll receive a Zoom link for your ceremony and a livestream link for guests.

Step 3: Get Your Marriage License Online Through Utah County

Utah County is the only U.S. jurisdiction that allows couples to marry online without being physically together or in Utah during the ceremony.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Apply online through Utah County’s website (link provided by LoveLife).

  2. Upload a valid photo ID for each partner (passport, driver’s license, or government-issued ID).

  3. Pay the license fee of $72 online. (An additional $75 is charged for shipping outside the USA)

  4. Receive your digital marriage license via email

  5. Provide your marriage license information to [email protected] so your officiant can make it legal.

💡 Tip: You can apply from anywhere in the world, as long as you have internet access and valid IDs.

✅ Deliverable: Your marriage license is approved and ready for your ceremony.

Step 4: Personalize Your Ceremony

  • Decide if you want to write your own vows or use traditional ones.

  • Add music, readings, or cultural elements.

  • Choose a meaningful outfit and setting — even a few flowers or candles can make the space special.

✅ Deliverable: Ceremony script and personal touches finalized.

Step 5: Invite Your Guests

  • Send your Zoom or livestream link to friends and family.

  • Let them know they can dress up, toast with you, and send blessings in the chat.

  • For larger audiences, LoveLife can livestream to YouTube so everyone can watch.

✅ Deliverable: Guests know how and when to join.

Step 6: Set Up Your Tech (You Do This — LoveLife Is Virtual)

What you’ll need:

  • A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a good camera.

  • A tripod or stand for stability.

  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data).

  • Zoom app installed.

💡 Tip: Test your setup before the big day to make sure you’re framed well, and your vows can be heard clearly.

✅ Deliverable: Tech ready for a smooth livestream.

Step 7: Wedding Day

  • Log into Zoom 10–15 minutes early.

  • Greet guests in the chat or let your “Zoom host” welcome them.

  • Your LoveLife officiant will guide you through vows, rings, and the pronouncement.

💖 Even though you’re apart, you’ll feel connected — and your guests will, too.

✅ Deliverable: You’re married!

Step 8: After the Ceremony

  • Digital Marriage Certificate: Sent to you right after your officiant files it (Immediately after the Zoom call ends).

  • Physical Certificate: Mailed within 3 business days.

  • International Recognition or Visa Processing: If you live outside the U.S. or need your marriage recognized for visas, you may need an Apostille (a notarized certification). This is arranged through LoveLife. Please check with attorneys and local laws.

✅ Deliverable: Marriage officially recorded, certificate in hand.

Step 9: Celebrate Now, Reunite Later

Plan an extension with LoveLife ($50) to have a reception or plan a private reception or a second celebration when you can be together in person. Many couples replay their ceremony video, read their vows again, or have their first dance when they reunite.
